The number waking up in cells there on Monday totalled 179, of whom 45 are on remand.

However, that temporary solution can only be used to accommodate low-risk prisoners currently on day-release work schemes.In an unusual move, the Finance and Economics Committee have set aside up to £1 million from the General Reserve to fund the return to UK jails this autumn of prisoners who have no Island links.
