Victim’s chin is bitten off in assault

In the Magistrate’s Court this morning Kevin Bannon (35), of Liverpool, admitted committing a grave and criminal assault on Ian Caton in Don Street on 21 April.Crown Advocate Caitriona Fogarty said that the attack happened after the men had been watching televised football in the Beer House on Burrard Street between rival teams.As tempers became frayed, the victim left the pub and walked towards Don Street, where he was jumped on by Bannon.

As a friend tried to split up the pair, the victim noticed a hole in his chin and immediately ran towards the Hospital, Advocate Fogarty told the court.A friend then found the victim’s chin and one third of the lower lip and took it Accident and Emergency.

Mr Caton received 60 stitches, but doctors were unable to reconstruct his face.
