With Guernsey chasing Jersey’s total of 214 all out from the allotted 45 overs, the Sarnians then succumbed to a total of 93 in 26 overs with Gough and Andy Dewhurst, who took two for 35 in 11 overs, bowling unchanged for 23 overs.Earlier Jersey, who retained the silverware courtesy of a comfortable 121-run win, got off to an excellent start through skipper Peter Gough and Rohan Mohanty. With some fine strokeplay and good running between the wickets the pair put on an opening partnership of 75 in 63 minutes before Gough departed well caught by Simon Geall.Jonny Gough entered the fray and, looking to push the score along slightly quicker, he top-edged a return catch to bowler André van Rooyan with the total on 105.Mohanty followed 15 runs later for a fine 56, off 100 balls in 63 minutes, and although Guernsey slowed Jersey’s charge well, useful contributions helped the hosts move on to a total of 214.Guernsey’s van Rooyan and Divan van den Heever both took three wickets but left-arm over quickie van den Heever struggled with his run-up, conceding 15 no-balls in 10.1 overs.Jersey manager Dave Clark said: ‘We followed on from last year’s win, we’ve put another 40 or 50 runs on the scoreboard while Guernsey have made little progress.’It’s disappointing, Guernsey don’t seem to be meeting the required standard in the age group.’We had a really good start, Rohan batted well while Guernsey were uninventive with their bowling I thought.

We lost a few wickets quickly in the middle order and in the run-chase at the end but I was happy with our total.’Young Danny Bertram is maturing well and it is not all about being an opening bat.

They were under instructions to go for a run a ball off the final eight overs and Danny’s inexperience showed when he run Andy Dewhurst out looking to get off the mark quickly.’But he responded well after his mistake to make a good 20 for the team.’Jonny and Andy bowled really well, it never looked like Guernsey were going to hit Jonny’s medium away swingers around the park while Andy again delivered good line and length and his pace was a bit deceptive at times as he gets the ball to skid through batsmen very quickly at times.’
