Sarnians go for new faces in inter-insular

Sarnian boss Dave Hearse has announced a squad of 12 players for the match, Jersey also named 12 last week, giving him various options up to the start of the game. The uncapped players are Matt Oliver, Matt Jeffery, Tim Duke and André van Rooyen.Hearse said: ‘We have elected to pick 12 players at this stage with three things in mind.

Tim Duke’s recent injuries, he needs to be fit.

Also his partner is due to give birth this week so there is a chance he could get called away.’We also want to be sure on our bowling attack’s balance.’Duke has impressed everybody in his first season and Hearse said it was unfortunate that he had had two injuries in quick succession. The Wanderers and NRG Pessimists all rounder has played a bit for Essex seconds and various other Essex representative sides, mainly as an opening bowler. But after glandular fever five years ago he returned to work on his batting.

Hearse want him in the side for his classy batting and the extra bowling option he gives.Duke and Oliver, scorer of three centuries this season including one on tour for the island, are the two obvious selections for a first cap.Jeffery has been involved with Guernsey for a couple of years and he has been bowling better recently, especially on grass wickets.Van Rooyen’s inclusion may be the one that raises the most eyebrows but the young Optimists all rounder has proved himself to be more than useful with both bat and ball, as a seamer, as well as being an outstanding fielder.Guernsey’s squad is: Andy Biggins, Matt Oliver, Glenn Milnes, Ami Banerjee, Jeremy Frith, Stuart Le Prevost, Tim Duke, Pierre Moody, Matt Jeffery, André van Rooyen and Justin Ferbrache.
