The payment was one of the recommendations in the independent McQueen report on the dairy industry which was released last February, in which the author, Dr Donald McQueen said: ‘There is a strong case for exceptional assistance now from the States to ensure that the industry gets through the difficult period immediately ahead.’Dr McQueen recommended that this could take a number of forms, including a one-off supplement or interim payment.The chairman of the Agriculture Advisory Board, Deputy Mike Taylor, said that the amount had been agreed by the Economic Development Committee and the Finance and Economics Committee.
