In a dispute over pay, about 30 of the workers voted for an overtime ban and the start of the work-to-rule at lunchtime yesterday.
The men rejected a 3.5 per cent pay offer and decided to take immediate action. And the dispute may escalate today at the start of one of the busiest weekends of the year as the company is understood to be intent on bringing in workers from the UK to minimise the disruption. But the local staff believe that would be illegal as UK workers will not have social security cards and will also be in breach of residency restrictions. It is forecast the action already in place will lead to significant delays for flights today and tomorrow.
Servisair handle the two biggest airlines, Flybe and British Airways, as well as Le Cocqs Airlink and a number of charter operators.Jersey Airport’s senior management and Harbours and Airport president Senator Len Norman were not aware of the dispute until contacted yesterday by the JEP.
Senator Norman said he would make further inquiries.
