Saturday was officially the hottest day on record in Jersey, with mercury levels rising to 36?C – equivalent to 96.8?F.The previous hottest day was 13 years ago on 3 August 1990, when 35.4?C was recorded.

The sea temperature was also at its highest, reaching 20.4?C at St Helier Harbour, where it is measured.Saturday’s exceptional weather marked the Island out as the equal hottest place in Britain, on a par with the temperatures recorded at the London Weather Centre.
