Although not all hotels and guest houses were full yesterday, last-minute bookings were still being taken for this week.Jersey Tourism reported some vacancies in a variety of accommodation and said the Island was probably slightly less busy than at the same time last year.Marketing director David de Carteret said there was also still demand but it was slightly easier to meet it this year than in many past seasons due to the limited availability.’The trend has definitely been for shorter stays prompted by lower air fares, although this is not a short-stay week.
However, generally we are seeing stays of less than seven nights across the season,’ he said.It would appear that the late booking trend is being reflected across the industry with carriers and attractions reporting a last-minute upsurge in business at a Jersey Tourism Board meeting earlier this week.
