Seeded two, Pankhurst beat his doubles partner Tim Markall 6-4, 6-3 in a hard-fought game which featured long, hard rallies, and it was Pankhurst’s consistency that clinched the match.In the ladies final Catherine Francescon, fresh from her exploits in the Island Games and the No 2 seed, started strongly and went ahead 3-1 but Edwards started to move her opponent around the court and won through 6-3, 6-0.In the men’s doubles final top seeds Pankhurst and Markall beat no 2 seeds Pablo Giacopelli and Peter Theron 7-5, 6-4, in a close match which featured good, fast net play and powerful returns.

Edwards and Francescon, seeded no 1, took on Anne Ledwidge and Jenny Carnegie, unseeded players who had beaten the second seeds in the semi-finals, in the ladies doubles.

But Edwards and Francescon were too powerful for their opponents and won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.Pankhurst was on court again, for the mixed doubles final, in which he played with Michelle Hollywood.

The top seeded pair started strongly with powerful, attacking net play, but second seeds Sean Peters and Rebecca Edwards fought back and saved two match points at 5-2 in the second set, but Pankhurst and Hollywood took the tie-break and the match 6-2, 7-6.In the band 1,2,3 men’s singles Sean Peters beat Simon Le Rougetel 6-2, 6-2, with Peters too strong for his unseeded opponent.
