Royal Court trial for man armed with knife

After a night out, Keith Roger John Vale (20), of Devonshire Place, went back out into the streets of St Helier with a five-inch kitchen knife in an attempt to find the man who had taken his £80 T-shirt.He mistook another man for his attacker and waved the knife at him, the Magistrate’s Court heard today. His victim was of Chinese origin and did not understand much English but thought he heard the word money and so handed him his money belt. When Vale was arrested, the money belt and its contents were found underneath a nearby car.Vale has admitted being drunk and disorderly on that night in Devonshire Place and having the knife with him as an offensive weapon.

But he has denied robbing the man, because he says that he never asked him for his money. The incident happened on 7 August and Vale has reserved his plea to committing a grave and criminal assault on the man.He applied for bail when he appeared in court today but his application was refused by the Magistrate, Ian Le Marquand, because of fears that he might abscond.Vale also faces a charge of being drunk and disorderly on 19 July outside Pure nightclub at the Weighbridge, to which he has reserved his plea.He will be committed for trial before the Royal Court at his next court appearance on 19 September.
