The residents of Croix du Bois – off Bagatelle Road – were without water for about two hours.

Peter Hamel, the Jersey New Waterworks Company’s assistant distribution manager, said that an old cast-iron valve had failed.’The bottom blew out of a valve that had been in for many years,’ he explained.

‘We put the water off at 12.15 and the whole thing was dealt with by 5.30 pm.’No houses were flooded but the street was submerged by water.

Public Services teams were called in to help.

Mr Hamel said the particular problem that caused the flooding was quite rare.Ironically, the incident happened at a time when the company has imposed a hosepipe ban because of fears of a water shortage.
