Union complains of civil service ‘gagging’ move

Mr Corbel has described the contents of a letter he has received from Policy and Resources chief executive Bill Ogley as ‘disgraceful’ and ‘patronising’.’I am sure my predecessors, Mick Kavanagh and René Liron, would not have been sent that letter by the chief officers of their day,’ he said.’It seems that Mr Ogley appears to believe he can influence what I should and should not say in the interest of my members.’The letter has been passed to the Transport and General Workers Union Jersey District Committee – the union’s formal representative body – and also to the staff side of the Manual Workers Joint Council for comment.Mr Ogley said that he did not mean to cause offence by sending the letter and wanted to give Mr Corbel the opportunity to check out exactly what was contained in the proposals. The chief executive wrote to the union official after Mr Corbel urged the people of the Island to show their strength of feeling about the Les Pas issue.
