No silver lining in nursery’s cloud

Nursery staff found out four weeks ago that they no longer had a home when the church hall they were based in was sold to developers.Twenty-four children will tomorrow spend their final day at the school in the Galaad Methodist Church hall in Rue de Haut, St Lawrence. The nursery has had to shut following the closure of Galaad Methodist Church in January.

The land was put out to informal tender and the contents of the church sold, but nursery owner had Jane Rogers remained optimistic in the knowledge that the church was designated a building of special interest.

She had hoped the hall and her nursery might also be saved. She said: ‘I sent a letter out to parents and I said I was optimistic.

I knew a tender had been made that would mean the nursery could stay, but they obviously went for the higher bidder.’
