Deputy police chief’s son-in-law dies in Basra

Major Matthew Titchener was the officer commanding 150 Provost company of the Royal Military Police.

He was travelling in a convoy in the southern Iraqi city which was attacked by gunmen in a pick-up truck.Chief supt Harper, who was due to take up his post as deputy chief on Monday, has been allowed compassionate leave and is in Scotland with his wife comforting their daughter Raqual Harper-Titchener, who is also a serving police officer.She is expecting the couple’s second child in December.

Their first child, a boy, is just two years old.
