Fifth annual regatta based at centenary yacht club

The Regatta includes entries from the combined Royal Channel Islands and St Helier yacht clubs, plus St Catherine’s Sailing Club.Friday’s first warm-up races are for the sport-boat, cruiser/racer, day-boat, dinghy and sport-catamaran classes.

A post-race skippers’ briefing will be held in St Helier Yacht Club shortly after 10 pm, once the evening’s racing is finished.Saturday and Sunday’s racing programme ranges from the regular racing hot-shots to the more leisurely family cruisers.Given fair winds, the sport-boat, cruiser/racer and sport-catamaran classes will race offshore, allowing the day-boat, dinghy, junior dinghy and Hobie Dragoon classes uninterrupted racing around Olympic-type courses laid in St Aubin’s Bay.It is anticipated that there will be strong competition between the Island’s younger sailors. On the social side, a reception is to be held at the RCIYC on Thursday evening for all those involved and tickets to Saturday’s Regatta party are available from the RCIYC and St Helier YC with the evening open to all yacht and sailing club members.

The weekend ends with a buffet reception and prize-giving on Sunday.Entry forms are still available from both clubs and www.rciyc.org and prospective competitors are reminded that entries received after 10 pm today, Tuesday 2 September, will incur a late entry fee.

The Jersey Regatta is sponsored by Jersey Telecom, in association with Channel House Trustees Ltd, Jersey Tourism and Education, Sport and Culture.Complimentary berthing for competitors is being provided by Jersey Harbours in La Collette marina.
