A patron of the Jersey appeal aimed at raising £1.5 million towards a Channel Islands floor at a new patient and family hotel opposite the London hospital, Sir John officially launched an initiative aimed at bringing in this amount over two years. The launch of the appeal – which is being supported by the Jersey Evening Post – in the grounds of Government House on a beautiful sunny evening took place in the presence of the other patrons, the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache and GOSH supporter Phyllis Somers.A senior team from Great Ormond Street, led by the chairman of the GOSH NHS Trust, Sir Cyril Chantler, and chief executive Dr Jane Collins were there as a mark of their gratitude for the magnificent response from Islanders to the Wishing Well Appeal in the late Eighties.

At that time, Jersey was the highest regional fund-raiser.With the leading children’s hospital in need of a total overhaul from its Victorian past to ensure the treatment it offers critically ill children and its research continues to be ground-breaking, they are once again turning to Islanders for help.
