If approved, the casino – the first in the Channel Islands – will be based at the St Pierre Park Hotel, as part of a £25 million expansion programme including increased conference and banqueting facilities, a night club, cinema, four bars, a brasserie and a restaurant. The plans, due to come before the Guernsey States this month, will target not only the leisure sector, but also that island’s finance industry, which accounts for 70% of the economy.Described as a public/private partnership between the St Pierre Park and the Guernsey Tourist Board, the casino is expected to develop new short-break markets, such as incentive travel and business travellers extending their stay with their families.
