Stuffed squirrel found in road

The grisly find has horrified animal welfare officers, who believe it was dumped after a failed attempt at DIY taxidermy.

The mutilated remains were found in Blenheim Avenue, St Saviour.Dr Louise Magris, research ecologist for the environment department, was handed the carcass of the red squirrel, which is a protected and endangered species, on Tuesday.’It is a very strange thing,’ she said.

‘There is no way of knowing how the squirrel died.

My gut feeling is that it was probably a road death, but you cannot be sure.’Red squirrels are protected and we take this very, very seriously.’
