Football:First Tower hit the goal trail again

Fresh from their 9-0 win at Jersey Wanderers last Tuesday, Tower were back banging in the goals again at La Hague Manor to chalk up a 5-1 win against Grouville.Nathan Maguire hit the target twice and Bradley Russell, Peter Vincenti and Daniel Parry once each with Richard Russell replying for the parish club.St Paul’s, likely to be Tower’s closest-challengers this season, opened their season with a 5-1 win against Rozel Rovers, the latter 2-0 winners against Grouville last Tuesday.Young Brett Pitman shot the Saints ahead with a good finish from eight yards only for Rozel to equalise with a penalty from Dale Parker.

Defender Alan Fernandes looked to have saved the Saints with a brilliant tackle on Jamie Savory, only for substitute goalkeeper Aaron Gouveia to blatantly push Savory to the ground and concede the spot kick.Gouveia had not been on the field long as he had replaced Matthew Seymour who had been taken to hospital with a broken right leg after colliding with an opponent in a 50/50 challenge.Rozel put up a brave fight but the game turned against them early in the second half.

With St Paul’s defence all at sea Savory exploited space but his shot came back into play off a post.St Paul’s survived going 2-1 behind and they broke to go 2-1 up at the other end when goalkeeper Fraser Siddall fumbled Luke Watson’s shot into his own net following a fine cross by Jordan Lisle.Watson was soon afterwards sent off for kicking an opponent in retaliation and although Rozel created good chances and hit the post again through Marc Whitsey, it was ten-man St Paul’s who hit them with a further three goals.Tony Robinson unluckily nodded another excellent Lisle cross into his own goal before Pitman drilled home his second, with Lisle again being the provider, before Lucas Parker nodded home the Saints’ fifth from a corner kick.Three players scored hat-tricks in Division II – Ryan Morgan and Dale Harper for St Brelade and Stephen du Four for Sporting Academics.

Craig Tostevin also scored twice and Ben Harris and Scott Boyden one each as St Brelade beat Sporting Club 10-0.Danny Murphy, Robbie Landers, Wil Sim, Ricky Morgan and Bobby Melim were also on target in the Accies’ 8-1 win at St Clement.Shane Jandron, James Makin and Michael Donoghue were on target in Trinity’s 3-1 home win over St Peter, the visitors replying through Ryan Le Cornu.
