The Jerseyman also managed to set the fastest lap of the entire field and now holds the record for the fastest lap in a Scholarship class car around this circuit.
As an added bonus he seized the championship lead from Stephen Jelley and established a strong 35 point lead going into this season’s final two rounds.Walker, who has been offered a race-seat with top Formula 3 team Hitech Racing for 2004, lined up in seventh position on the starting grid on Saturday ahead of all his other class competitors.
The red gantry lights turned green and the field of 25 1800 cc Zetec engines burst into life.
A disappointing start pushed him back into ninth position, but he fought hard and, by the chequered flag, had made up four places by overtaking senior class runners.
Stephen Jelley finished a distant two laps behind, having come off the track earlier in the race.On Sunday, Walker’s Panasonic Batteries-sponsored Formula Ford leapt from its fifth place grid slot to put senior runner, Yuya Sakamoto, under immense pressure.
Sakamoto remained composed, though, as Scholarship class rival, Jay Howard, honed in on Walker.
Howard’s driving was typically aggressive and, on lap three, he made contact with the rear of Walker’s car.
After this Howard was forced to retire with broken front suspension, but the Jerseyman was able to continue unharmed.
Meanwhile, senior class driver, Oliver Jarvis, had laid down some quick lap-times and was soon weaving behind Walker’s gearbox, looking for a way past.
Down the pit-straight, the two cars edged side-by-side but Walker defended magnificently, and managed to keep Jarvis at bay before his rival pushed too hard and spun out of contention.
The Islander’s’ mature performance thus gave him his second Scholarship win of the weekend, as he finished closely behind Sakamoto in the senior class car.
Jelley, once again, failed to finish the race.Afterwards Walker said: ‘This has been a fantastic weekend for me.
From the beginning of testing on Thursday we were quick.
That set the pattern for qualifying and for race day.
I was really pleased with the way I drove in both races.
‘I pushed hard and got the result I needed.
With two class pole positions, two fastest laps, two lap records in the Scholarship class and two race wins – it doesn’t get much better than that!’Walker, aged 20, has claimed an amazing ten victories so far this season, from just 18 races.
Rounds 19 and 20 take place at Oulton Park on 20 and 21 September.
