Steve scores early in the season

But national Groundsman of the Year Steve Landick says that winning the award was not just down to his work, it was all part of a team effort.Mr Landick has won the Football Association title for the second year running, and he hopes to make it a hat trick next year.Mr Landick heads a team which oversees the grounds run by the Education, Sport and Culture Committee. He said: ‘As we won it last year our hopes were quite high to win it a second year because things have not changed.’Last Wednesday Mr Landick attended an awards ceremony and dinner at Windsor Racecourse to celebrate his success.

FA leagues manager Mike Appleby said the award Mr Landick had taken was part of a scheme to recognise the hard work put in by groundsmen throughout Britain. He said: ‘Everyone was being rewarded for their work apart from the groundsmen and yet the pitch is the most important part of the process.’They often have to do the work single-handed and normally for no reward – much of their work is voluntary, and with this in mind, Steve has done a wonderful job.’The Groundsman of the Year competition is part of a wide-ranging FA plan to improve facilities.
