Golf:Jersey hammered in Guernsey

Jersey were beaten 3-2 in both the fourball and foursomes sections before then losing seven of the ten matches in the singles yesterday afternoon.’We went over full of confidence but were left wanting,’ were beaten Jersey captain Terry Smith’s words – putting to bed his earlier boast that Jersey would stroll to victory this year. That is now nothing more than regrettable bar talk as Steve Turvey’s Guernsey side let their golf do the talking, and it was they who strolled to a 13-7 success.Smith said: ‘I’m disappointed we lost, I always knew it would be tough winning in Guernsey – and full credit to them.

Their chipping and putting was exceptional throughout.’Our performance was not as good as I was expecting.

Our players gave it their all and played to their best but unfortunately it wasn’t good enough, overall.’Two points behind going into the singles was not a disaster, we were in touch but we didn’t perform.

Only three singles wins was disappointing and the players I was banking on to win just didn’t deliver on the day.’
