Savings identified in department changes

The president of the Economic Development Committee, Deputy Gerald Voisin, was responding to comments from members of the farming industry and others who maintain that the reorganisation, which was announced last week, was no more than ‘shuffling the cards’.A total of five posts at the old Agriculture Department would not be maintained, he said, with cost savings of £217,000, and there would be further scope, in a next stage of economies, to examine existing services critically. The key thing, he added, had been to sort out what functions should become the responsibility of the Environment and Public Service Department and which should be retained by his own Economic Development Committee.
