Plan ‘may cost 900 jobs’

The Finance and Economics Committee have warned that the Constable’s plans would mean staff cuts of up 900, cutbacks in services and benefits and problems maintaining infrastruture.

And Finance further contend that such a move would cause problems in industrial relations. The committee also argue that such huge staff cuts would result in significant one-off redundancy costs and would require a major retraining exercise to allow people who lose their jobs to have a chance of getting another job in the private sector.Finance say that the Constable’s proposals clearly cannot be achieved by efficiencies alone and argue that there would also need to be cuts in public services and/or a reduction in States benefits to meet the targets set.
