And while the hourly rates charged by UK law firms fell by up to 25 per cent last year, the charges of Jersey firms rose by as much as ten per cent.A survey of hourly rates has just been published in the latest edition of the legal industry’s ‘bible’, Legal 500, and shows that Jersey firms are very expensive in comparison to everywhere else in Britain, apart from the very biggest City of London-based international law firms.
However, the Legal 500 does praise the quality of Jersey’s lawyers and says the Island has some of the best lawyers in the world in certain sectors, including commercial litigation, structured finance and securitisation.
