Hibbs dives to gold in Hampshire

Competing in the boys 14 and 15 age group the Victoria College schoolboy completed five dives covering three groups from either the 1m or 3m boards last weekend.

His dives included an excellent back dive straight and a forward somersault tuck from the 1m board before moving up to the 3m height. He then chose a reverse somersault tuck, an inward one-and-a-half somersault tuck and a forward two-and-a-half somersault tuck.

With good scores from each of his dives Hibbs, a member of the Jersey Swimming Club, scored 137.85 points, which was good enough for gold.JSC coach Tina Jéhan, a former Commonwealth diver who accompanied Hibbs, said she was delighted with his performance and that this should stand him in good stead for future competition.Hibbs, who has been diving for four years and currently practises at the Waterfront pool, was more than pleased by his gold, which he hadn’t expected. The dive that made the difference was the technically difficult forward two and a half somersault which was given high marks by all the judges.A further four divers will represent the Jersey Swimming Club in the Hampshire Age Group Championships on 4 October.Education, Sport and Culture support the divers.
