Light winds meant that the eight yachts left St Aubin’s Bay with engines running instead of sails filled.

The boats need to round Land’s End before the tide turns against them so the start line of race 15 was moved to about 40 miles west of Jersey. The fleet left Jersey in formation at 6.30 this morning and were due to begin racing at about noon, using a ‘rolling start’ co-ordinated by the skipper of Jersey Clipper, Simon Rowell. The yachts are racing to Holyhead, where they will regroup before sprinting into Liverpool to cross the final finish line on Saturday.

Eight points are on offer to the winner of the race to Anglesey and another four for the dash home – which is all good news for Jersey, who trail race leader Bristol by just two points.
