Cinema walls become artists’ blank canvas

The Waterfront Enterprise Board has announced that it is to launch a competition to find ideas for how the controversial back of the cinema complex can be enhanced.WEB have the backing of Environment and Public Services for the competition, which would create the biggest art project ever seen in the Island.ExcitingArtist Ian Rolls says it is an exciting development.

He first raised the idea of using the walls for art in a letter to the JEP earlier this year and has had discussions on the issue with WEB.’That’s great news,’ he said.

‘Those walls are a wonderful blank canvas which thousands of people see every day.

I think this will be a very popular decision and an opportunity to create something very dramatic.’WEB have also enlisted the support of the Jersey Public Sculpture Trust in drawing up the terms of reference for the competition and selecting the winner.

Site developers CTP have also given it their backing.
