Inquiry ‘will be a waste of time and money’

He says a public inquiry will cost about £200,000 and take an enormous amount of time.

He also questions what it will achieve. But he has been accused of running scared by Policy and Resources president Senator Frank Walker.’My own view is that Senator Vibert has realised an inquiry will rule that many of the statements he made without the benefit of the full facts are likely to be shown to be unfounded,’ said the P & R president.Senator Vibert was one of the leading critics of the £10m land deal that will see a prime waterfront site transferred to Les Pas for development within weeks.

He contended that public inquiries have ‘a habit of lasting far longer and costing far more than originally estimated’.

‘For us to spend over £200,000 on an inquiry when that money could be far better spent on health or social services would be simply absurd,’ he said. However, Senator Walker said this was another ‘astonishing U-turn’.

‘Senator Vibert did a U-turn when he decided to support the holding of the Les Pas debate in private and has now done another.

This time I totally disagree with him,’ said Senator Walker.
