Entered as a coastal resort, it is up against towns like Sidmouth in Devon, which has won 30 of its 32 attempts at the award.Representatives of the parish were at the Guild Hall in London today to discover if they have managed to beat the town which over the past year has become both rival and friend. The two places have come together because they are both being featured on the BBC television programme Gardener’s World.A film crew has already been to the Island twice to meet those working to make the parish look its best as they built up to the judging of the display.
And the floral co-ordinator for the parish, Reg Langlois, said a story of friendly rivalry between St Brelade and Sidmouth now runs through the programme.Whatever the result of today’s ceremony, the parish will be featured on the hour-long programme, which is due to be shown on BBC2 on Sunday.
And Mr Langlois quietly has high hopes.
