Accused man ‘kicked head like a football’

Jordan Brian Ahier (20), of Oak Tree Gardens, St Helier, reserved his plea to committing the assault on Liam Whorriskey on the Esplanade on 27 September when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court. The attack left Mr Whorriskey fighting for his life and he spent two days on a life-support machine in Southampton Hospital. The court heard that Ahier had been out drinking with a group of people including Whorriskey when the assault happened.Prosecuting, Bridget Shaw said: ‘Ahier karate-kicked Whorriskey to the chest and he fell to the ground where he kicked him to the head very severely.

The force of the kick was compared to kicking a football.’She said that Whorriskey had been flown to Southampton Hospital where he spent 48 hours on a life-support machine and for a time it was doubtful whether he was going to pull through.Ahier made no bail application and was remanded in custody until 29 October when committal proceedings to the Royal Court are due to begin.
