Britain in Bloom: St Brelade take bronze

The Island’s floral team spent the year pruning and planting in direct competition with the group from the Devon resort because both teams are due to appear on the television programme Gardeners World this week and both wanted to be winners. But at the Britain in Bloom Floral Awards ceremony at the Guild Hall in London last night, the parish took bronze while Sidmouth walked away with silver. But the surprise for everyone was the fact that Filey in Yorkshire took the gold.

‘We were not expecting that,’ said St Brelade’s floral coordinator Reg Langlois.

‘Where did they come from?’But Mr Langlois said he was not at all bitter about being beaten.’It was excellent.

I am so pleased we got this far even if we did not make it.

I went over to see Sidmouth’s entry the other week and although we were good, we were not that good.’The group are now looking forward to seeing their efforts displayed on television when Gardeners World is screened at 8 pm on Sunday.
