But a States Senator says he is concerned about rumours that the company could take over Safeway in Jersey.CI Traders says that it is not in the running for Safeway supermarket in Vallée des Vaux, despite reports in the national media, but chairman Tom Scott told AFX News yesterday that the group may be interested in Safeway on the mainland.Last week northern supermarket firm Wm Morrison was given the go-ahead by the UK government to bid for Safeway, on the grounds that a takeover by rivals Tesco, Sainsbury or Asda could restrict competition.

The UK Competition Commission says that Morrison will have to sell 53 of the 479 Safeway stores to other buyers, in the public interest.
