Chelaris J – the missing boat – was found on the seabed yesterday by a French minehunter.

The owner and skipper, Guernseyman Martyn Lane, and three unnamed Frenchmen are believed to be on board, but rough seas and tidal conditions forecast for today could delay any recovery operation.Search and rescue co-ordinator Captain Robert Barton said: ‘Diving on a wreck like that, in that position, would have to be considered very carefully by a specialist diving team.

It’s likely to be an extremely difficult operation to enter the wreck.’He would not say how deep the wreck was but it was reported to have gone down in near gale force conditions off the Schole Bank.

Chelaris J is lying outside the Bailiwick’s territorial waters.
