French nuclear plant to expand?

Expanding Flamanville from two to four pressurised water reactors is one of two main options facing Eléctricité de France (EDF).

The other is to expand the Penly power station, on the coast near Dieppe.A political decision between the two sites has yet to be made, an EDF spokesman said.A French politician, La Manche Deputy Claude Gatignol, who is president of the French National Assembly’s energy group, will be making a presentation to States Members later this month on the implications for Jersey of the French government’s drive to increase energy output. If new reactors are located on the coast, this should be of particular concern to Channel Islanders, according to Senator Stuart Syvret.
