Four rescued as yacht hits rock and sinks

Inversanda, a classic 55-foot steel vessel, struck a rock near Icho Tower just after 11 am.The St Helier and St Catherine lifeboats were on exercise in the area and reached the scene quickly.The lifeboat crew, with help from those on board the yacht, tried to keep her afloat but despite their best efforts Inversanda sank while attempting to return to the St Helier harbour under tow.Owner Michael Allo was on board with his son Mike and two other people.Despite an extensive salvage operation yesterday the vessel remains submerged 0.2 miles south east of the Demie des Pas lighthouse.

It is marked with a green buoy and Jersey Radio are broadcasting regular navigation warnings to all shipping.
