Have your say on your Island

The Policy and Resources Committee want ideas from the public to help form their new Strategic Plan, which will set out policy objectives for the States as a whole and bring together future States plans. The project will culminate in an open public meeting in November for up to 500 Islanders to discuss the plan.’People need to know where the Island is going and what the future holds,’ said P & R Committee president Senator Frank Walker.’Our job is to come up with a sustainable long-term vision plan for the Island which incorporates all the essential ingredients in terms of the economy, social issues, the environment and our culture.

The public of Jersey should have every opportunity to contribute to it, but at the end of the day the politicians have got to make the decision.’Work has already begun on various aspects of the strategy. While the Senator said that it was important for the public to be part of the policy-making process, he emphasised that the final Strategic Plan that would go before the States could only be an economically viable plan that paid due heed to tax policy, population and industry.
