The Island and Sporting Club Franais all-rounder enjoyed an excellent season, scoring an average of 60.18 runs in the NatWest Weekend League – 662 in total.His best, as so often is the case with this multiple award winner, was saved for the vital championship encounter against Caesareans – his 84 runs a vital ingredient as SCF went on to retain the Island championship.He was also impressive with the ball, taking 18 wickets, including a match-winning seven for 32 against Old Victorians.

He also chipped in with 236 runs for SCF in the Evening League.Carlyon received his award from former England all-rounder Ronnie Irani at the Grand Hotel and it topped a good night for SCF; Carlyon’s brother Tony collecting the Harry Rowe Trophy for the Division I championship and wicketkeeper Simon Short being the recipient of JCA President Albert Brown’s award for services to cricket.The Jersey Evening Post Young Cricketer of the Year award was shared, for the first time, by Martin Higgins and Kevan Crowell, both members of the successful Lords Taverners Jersey Junior Cricket Association side, who retained the Weekend League Division II title.Bowler Higgins (18) had an excellent season in captaining the LTJJCA and also played a part in helping SCF win the Division I title and Upton against Guernsey’s Wanderers.

Success also came in the Evening League with Hautlians, winners of Division III’s DH Landick Shield.

He claimed 15 wickets for the juniors and 16 for Hautlians.Crowell, also 18, is a solid all-rounder, taking 20 wickets for the juniors and claiming an average of 30.5 runs.

Also turning out for Air Con Jersey in the Evening League, he scored 90 runs and took ten wickets, while Weekend League side Romeril’s benefitted from his efforts including his dynamic fielding.Other sides making the trip up to the top table for awards were St Ouen (Evening League Division I Shield) and Centurions (Evening League Division II Challenge Cup winners), but some of the warmest applause of the evening came when the Services to Cricket Award, presented by the Jersey Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers was given to Pauline Kelly, a stalwart helper and scorer of Caesareans and the Island Over 50s team.The Player of the Month awards, presented by Dave Gumbrell of sponsors NatWest, went as follows: May – Rob Tewkesbury of St Ouen for four scores of over 40 including 77 not out against Beeches; June – Matthew Hague of SCF for consistent Weekend League batting displays, including five scores over 40 the best of which was an unbeaten 82 against Old Victorians.
