Seniors golf: Jersey are world beaters

Peter Gallaher, who was team captain, Ken Hewitt, Blair Sarre and John Littlemore, pushed the United States of America into second place after beating them by four points at the Twin Warriors Course, in Albuquerque in New Mexico.Over the week of tournament play, three of the four team members’ strokeplay scores counted and all four members shone and finished with individual prizes in their respective age groups.Gallaher achieved top spot with the lowest net score for 36 holes while Sarre came second in his ‘Rookie’ year.

Sarre also won a putter after winning a nearest the pin prize.Hewitt was runner-up in his flight while Littlemore rounded off a very good week by winning his flight on the final day of competition.Gallaher said: ‘We flew the flag for Jersey with a lot of pride, it was an excellent week.

Pushing the Americans into second place was rewarding and everyone winning a prize was an extremely good return.’The World Seniors champions intend to defend the Francis Brown Trophy in San Diego next year.
