The Superior Number of the Royal Court heard yesterday that the accused, Stephen Darren (43), was seen by police officers to visit the field of a secluded house and open the bonnet where some of the haul had been secreted. The remainder of the cannabis bars, as well as almost £25,000, was found buried in a container five feet away from the old car, which was registered in Darren’s name.Crown Advocate Sally Sharpe said that DNA tests showed that gloves found by police had been used by Darren.
A search of the accused’s home uncovered £4,000 in a safe which had been wrapped in a similar way to the money found at St Ouen.
Deputy Bailiff Michael Birt said that the court believed Darren had taken an active part in concealing the drugs and the transfer of cannabis, which would no doubt have gone onto the market in due course.Mr Birt was sitting with Jurats de Veulle, Rumfitt, Bullen, Georgelin, Allo and Clapham.
