A man from Ecuador and a woman from Albania arrived in Jersey on Saturday evening on the ferry from St Malo.

Both had counterfeit passports claiming EC nationality, but both were returned to St Malo after their documents were found to be false. The first passenger, a man in his 20s, initially presented a Spanish passport that he later admitted he had bought in Madrid for £700.

The man said he had left Ecuador around six years ago and had been living and working illegally in France and Spain ever since. The man told customs officers that he wanted to find work in the Island. The second passenger initially produced a Danish passport, and said she was returning home to London after a shopping trip to Paris.Investigations revealed she had been refused a visa for travel to the UK, but that she had lived and worked in the UK illegally for five years.
