Town brawl accused deny ‘excessive’ actions

It is alleged that Mark Brown (28), from Jersey, and Sean Durkin (23), from Limerick, fought with several other men in Route de la Liberation on 23 March.

Both men deny affray.Crown Advocate Conrad Yates told the Assize jury that CCTV footage showing the two men throwing punches and kicking would form a major part of the prosecution case.He said that the images would show that the two defendants had not acted in self-defence.Advocate Yates said the film would show Durkin throwing a volley of punches which sent a man staggering backwards and then kick another man twice. He said Durkin’s actions were both ‘unnecessary and excessive’.He added that the footage would also show Brown head-butting a man so hard that he fell back onto the pavement, and described the defendant’s actions as ‘unprovoked and excessive’.It was also alleged that Brown kicked another man while he was on the floor and that it was his actions that were a catalyst for further fighting. The trial continues.
