Keep the noise down!

The Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, has written to licence-holders to ask them to help cut down the amount of drunkenness and violence in town.Mr Crowcroft has written to holders of pub, restaurant and nightclub licences to ask them to monitor how much patrons are drinking and the music emanating from their premises.

His letter reads: ‘For some time now, and especially since becoming Constable, I have had serious concerns about the amount of drunkenness that occurs in the parish, especially in the town area and particularly at night.

It seems that some residents actually avoid coming into the town area at night for fear of being assaulted, or of having to witness drunkenness, or violence and anti-social behaviour fuelled by excessive alcohol consumption.’Mr Crowcroft reminded licence-holders of their legal obligations to:Permit no drunkenness on their premises.Sell no alcohol to people under the influence of alcohol.Make sure no excessive noise emanates from the premises.
