Roadworks disrupt traffic in St Saviour

The work, which is being carried out to link the new substation at the trading estate to the surrounding power network, will continue until November. The junction which connects Route de Longueville to Rue des Prés and Rue St Thomas has been closed for underground cable laying.

The closure affects the area of road to the east of Longueville Manor, and running southwards down the side of the trading estate as far as the substation. The JEC has created a diversion running through the trading estate, but say that there are still people trying to use the closed roads.Civil works engineer David Birbeck said that despite the number of signs they had put up before the work started, they expected it to take a few days for people to get used to the diversions. The work is being carried out to reinforce the capacity of the Jersey electricity grid, and the £4 million new substation is the first built in the Island for around ten years.
