New trust will support scientific exploration

The trust is chaired by Jersey’s famous explorer, Colonel John Blashford-Snell, and the president is former Senator Pierre Horsfall.

The trust is known as The Scientific Exploration Society Jersey, and is affiliated to the Scientific Exploration Society in the UK, the organisation founded by Colonel Blashford-Snell in 1969 and which now has an international membership of some 600 members. It intends to raise funds to sponsor the costs of Islanders who would like to participate in expeditions, but who cannot afford the necessarily high costs of doing so.It is aimed at young people in particular, as being most likely to benefit from the character forming and leadership aspects of going on such expeditions, but Islanders of all ages will be eligible to apply for the sponsorship.
