Cannabis ‘minder’ to appeal against sentence

Cannabis ‘minder’ to appeal against sentence

William Prentice (30) admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis after being arrested with 23 kg of the drug on 4 February.

Police intercepted two boxes of cannabis when they arrived in the Island and substituted them with harmless packages. They then monitored the packages by placing a mobile telephone in one of them.Immediately after the sentence was announced, Prentice said that he would appeal and that he was ‘100 per cent confident’ that his sentence would be reduced by the Court of Appeal.Prentice told the court that he felt he had been given insufficient discount for the mitigation arguments that his lawyer, Advocate James Bell, had raised on his behalf.Announcing sentence, the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, said that Prentice could have added to the pernicious habit of drug-taking in Jersey. The Bailiff was sitting with Jurats de Veulle, Bullen, Clapham, Allo, Quérée and Georgelin.
