Former editor becomes Lieutenant Bailiff

Jurat Rumfitt, who has been a Jurat since November 1991, was congratulated on his new appointment by the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, who also paid tribute to his work as president of the Prison Board of Visitors – a role which required ‘tact, discretion, judgment and, at times, fortitude’.Jurat Rumfitt takes up the post following the retirement of Jurat Mazel Le Ruez.

The two Lieut- Bailiffs are the two most senior Jurats who preside over the Royal Court in the absence of the Bailiff or his Deputy.Sir Philip spoke of the varied experience and skills which Jurats brought to the bench and of Jurat Rumfitt’s long career in journalism, which he had ended as a much-respected editor of the Jersey Evening Post.
