Pressure group urge States to but Emeraude

The collection of Islanders loyal to the French ferry operator, who came together after authorities in Jersey arrested the company’s flagship Solidor 5 a fortnight ago because of unpaid dues, is calling on the States to buy a controlling stake in the embattled shipping line.

In a letter to Harbours and Airport Committee president Senator Len Norman over the weekend, the group’s chairman, Sean Power, suggests that the States buy 51 per cent of Emeraude and the remaining 49 per cent would be ‘eagerly purchased by Islanders, island institutions and the finance industry if the package was right.”We have have had a recent precedent in Guernsey,’ added Mr Power, ‘where the authorities acquired Aurigny quickly and dramatically when their only link to Gatwick was in jeopardy – and they safeguarded the island’s interests.
