Dairy farmers reject bull semen import plan

A total of 113 members of the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society voted ‘no’ to the proposal of the society’s council that it should ask the States to consider allowing the import of frozen bull semen.

Only 55 members voted in favour.For the change to happen, the States would need to overturn laws that have existed for 240 years, originally introduced in 1763 to ban the import of live cattle from France.
