Elderly support new proposals for health care

The Employment and Social Security Committee are asking the States to formally adopt the scheme now that they have reviewed its progress and adjusted it to make more older people eligible for assistance.Association chairman Daphne Minihane hopes that the alterations to the scheme, which have been recommended by the association, would help more of those who urgently needed help with health expenses.The Jersey 65+ Health Plan was launched in October 2001 but the original take-up was slow.

However, membership increased last year after the States adopted proposals to increase subsidy levels as well as include chiropody in the scheme and widen access to Health Insurance Exemption recipients.
